The Holy Marriage Blessing Ceremony—commonly referred to as the Blessing—serves as Rev. Moon's most enduring contribution to his followers and the movement's global identity. It is the fulfillment of God’s promise stated by the Apostle Paul in Ephesians 1:5: “He predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will.”

The Blessing, established by Reverend Moon in 1960, is the sacrament that is not merely a wedding but a sacred rite that enables humankind to fully rejoin the lineage of God. The Holy Marriage Blessing is offered as a framework to purify the corrupted love that steals people’s lives, and re-establish the foundation to receive God’s original love.

Reverend Moon taught that the fulfillment of religion is the creation of God-centered families. Loving husbands and wives, emotionally and spiritually healthy families are the keys to creating a peaceful world. The Blessing Ceremonies began modestly in 1961 with 36 couples in Seoul, then gradually expanded to 72, 124, 430, 777, 1800, 6000, 6500, 30,000, 360,000, and finally 3.6 million couples in 1997. During the ceremony, the couples affirm their commitment to God's ideal of eternal, true-love-centered marriage. Their vows symbolize a restoration of the original divine order, renouncing fallen love, raising godly children, and building ideal families for world peace.

Rev. Moon explains:
From the beginning, I have expanded the Blessing step by step, according to the principle of restoration through indemnity, progressing from the individual and national levels to the worldwide and cosmic levels… Each increasing number reflects the providential acceleration: from the small foundation in Korea, through national restoration, to international unity, and ultimately to the liberation of all humanity from the satanic lineage. The purpose is clear — to create true God-centered families that embody true love, true life, and true lineage, becoming the building blocks of world peace. Every Blessed couple participates in this cosmic mission, as models of the ideal family that can end the fallen history and establish God's eternal kingdom.

These mass ceremonies, conducted with international, interracial, and inter-religious couples, broke down barriers of nationality, race, and religion, resolving historical resentments through love and creating a foundation for the Kingdom of Heaven on earth.‍

Rev. Moon described the Blessing as the fulfillment of Heaven’s deepest hope:
The Blessing is the hope of God and the hope of Jesus and the Holy Spirit. The new history begins when this hope is realized.
