What Kind of Person am I?

June 14, 1990

Should we continue throughout the night, or should we finish quickly?

What kind of person am I? What am I supposed to do? What kind of person am I? What is my profession? What is my work?

I am a maker of history, and Father is a problem maker. Until now, all the opposition and persecution toward Reverend Moon has continued, but now it is over. After that, what is he? He is a peacemaker. From now on, his work is to make peace. That is the course that fits the providential process.

Why did the world oppose him? Because the world did not know who Reverend Moon was.

Why have they stopped persecuting him now? Because at last they have come to know that the world needs Reverend Moon, his teaching, and his leadership.

Until now they never knew what Father was doing, yet they persecuted him. Now they know they need Reverend Moon. Father continues making peace, but even in the future people may never fully understand for a long time how he makes peace and how they came to follow Father. Father discovered that American people are not interested in deep things. They want the result. They want the conclusion in a nutshell. They do not want to bother with details. So the important question is how Reverend Moon himself came to become a peacemaker. Everyone recognizes this.

Religious communities fought and fought. Religious factions and denominations fought one another constantly. Now they are becoming aware that fighting leads nowhere. All religious people should become like Reverend Moon. They are now realizing this. Muslims have three major factions and they are completely divided. They fight continually and never reconcile or make peace. Yet it is Reverend Moon who is making peace among them.

Judaism is the same way. Christians are no exception. For a very long time Father has worked to make peace among fighting Christian denominations. Now they are reaching the conclusion that all religious leaders should become like Reverend Moon before they can truly become leaders. Political people each had their own philosophy about how to become good leaders, but they always ended up fighting each other. People no longer trust politicians. They are like swindlers who say one thing and do another. Nobody trusts political figures anymore.

Business is the same. Everyone fights to make extra money, and people accepted that as normal business behavior. But look at Reverend Moon. The German people abandoned a hundred-year-old factory, and Reverend Moon bought it. People thought he was crazy. If Germans could not make it work, how could he make it work?

Now they understand that businessmen also should become like Reverend Moon.

Why does Father keep spending money rather than making money? Why keep large companies afloat? Father’s purpose is not to make money. Father intends to use those businesses for a greater purpose in the future. Father clearly showed the world that his purpose in business is not for Korea, nor for Reverend Moon himself, nor even for Germany, but for the sake of the world. When Reverend Moon says publicly that his goal in business is to equalize technology, he means he will share with everyone the secrets of how to manufacture products. Korean businesses and German factories received government money and subsidies to maintain themselves, but Reverend Moon used sweat and tears to make those enterprises successful while under persecution.

Why is Reverend Moon pursuing business so intensely? To serve the world.

There are people starving. Tens of thousands die from starvation every day, and millions die every year. Yet nobody thinks seriously about feeding them. The advanced nations have nothing to boast about while ignoring these people. Those so-called advanced countries act proudly and with authority, but Reverend Moon tells them they have nothing to say. The Global Economic Action Institute teaches that huge amounts of money are lying dormant in banks, not being used productively. We know that billions of dollars have been lent to South American countries and they cannot repay the loans. Banks lend them more money just so they can pay the interest. This is exactly what is happening. In reality, everyone is bankrupt. The American banks that lent money to South America are themselves effectively bankrupt.

How can this problem be solved? Father says the only solution is to use the sleeping money — to bring dormant money into action, reinvest it, and make it work again.

This must happen on a worldwide scale. It cannot remain only American banks or German banks. The boundaries of nations must be transcended. Only an international or global-scale bank can accomplish this work. People are beginning to agree that Father’s proposal is the only way nations can escape these problems. Father says that one hundred thousand people should gather together, and each person should take responsibility for a ten-million-dollar share. If one hundred thousand people each take such responsibility, then one hundred billion dollars can be raised. Father is actually carrying this out.

In the future, when nations unite more closely into a global-scale system, we must already know how to manage the world economy. Father will provide both the technology and the capital needed to produce goods from a central system. If people truly realized starving people were their own brothers and sisters, they would willingly work even three years without pay. Because they do not recognize them as brothers, they demand salaries first. But if you truly knew they were your brothers, you would not mind sacrificing for them.

The resources of the world are unlimited. Look at fish: a single female lays millions of eggs, but naturally very few survive. Through science and technology, however, the hatching rate can be brought close to one hundred percent. If properly managed, food resources can continue indefinitely. That is why Father became deeply interested in ocean enterprises many years ago. For the sake of humankind, Father spent the last decades of his life investing in these things. The ocean business was always part of Father’s plan. Father never tried to make money from it. Potentially it could have been highly profitable, but Father maintained the organization so it could someday be used for the benefit of humanity.

Soon you will witness with your own eyes buildings that are actually enormous fish tanks. It will look like a building, but every level will be filled with circulating water, raising fish through every stage of development. One section will hatch the eggs, another will raise the fish for several months, another for a year, and finally the mature fish will be ready for market and consumption. When that time comes, people will no longer need crowded urban life. Not everyone will have to gather in large cities. People will be able to live in rural areas.

We are entering a completely different age from the one in which we grew up. Clothing itself will change. With modern materials, one set of trousers and a shirt could easily last five years. Such clothing could be made cheaply enough for everyone to afford. One of the greatest problems today is contamination and environmental destruction. We do not need to pollute the world the way we are doing now, yet nobody truly has a solution to the environmental crisis.

Already there are signs that the ozone layer has been damaged, leaving a great hole in the atmosphere, and because of that the temperature continues rising every year.

We must change our lifestyle. We should live closer to nature so that even waste returns to the earth as fertilizer and restores the nutrients of the soil instead of destroying the environment as happens today. Year after year pollution increases and permanent damage is done to the world and to human health. Imagine a small town with one of these fish-producing buildings. People would simply go there to buy fresh fish directly. It would be natural food. We would not even need to cook it. Cooked food is not the best for health. The healthiest food is raw food. We do not need smoke and pollutants filling the air. Look at the Japanese people. They have some of the longest lifespans in the world because they eat fish, while many Western people do not.

The best part of the fish is not only the fillet. If you eat the head, the bones, the tail, and the entire fish, it is much better nutritionally. In nature, animals eat the whole thing. Lions and alligators do not just eat a small piece and throw the rest away. Human beings are almost the only creatures that cook their food. Fish eat other fish raw. That is the natural way of maintaining health. In the future, human diets will inevitably change. Young people will eat fresh vegetables, and people will learn to eat foods according to what best suits their age and condition. The healthiest way is to eat the whole food naturally. Human beings throw away the good parts and keep only a portion. Then they suffer from sickness such as heart disease. If you want to remain healthy, practice eating the whole fish.

You do not need elaborate cooking. Eat fresh food and you will stay healthy longer and avoid sickness. We must learn to live according to the order of nature. Some people ask, “Father, after doing all these things, are you now telling us to eat raw food?” But Father cannot help speaking the truth. This is the healthiest way to live. You can go into the mountains, catch fish, eat them fresh, gather edible plants and vegetables, wash them in clean water, and live in excellent health. Then why do we spend so many years in school? Why must people study eighteen years from kindergarten to a Ph.D.? Father thinks this is excessive. Much of what is necessary could be learned in ten years or less. Essential knowledge could be provided through videotapes and self-study.

After learning the basics, people could study independently and simply take examinations to receive credit. What is truly important is unity of language. Humanity needs one common language. In the future, systems will become extremely efficient. Within fifteen minutes people will be able to obtain any food they need. If tens of thousands of people live together in mountain communities, food trucks could deliver supplies to every family. People could even order by computer and receive fresh, unprocessed food immediately. Then people would have much more free time. But what will humanity do with that time? Earthly life alone can become boring. That is why we must come to understand the spirit world. Through prayer, purity, and a clean life, the immense world of spirit can open before us. Music beyond anything heard on earth, dancing, beauty, friendship with angels — all these realities exist. The greatest musicians and singers from history could even return from the spirit world and perform for us. These things are real. Father is not a dreamer. Father is a realist. These realities truly exist.

Future people will spend much more time traveling and appreciating nature. Transportation will become simple. Personal flying machines simpler than helicopters will exist. People will travel great distances in just a few hours. Hotels may even be built in the middle of the Pacific Ocean like floating platforms. Even now such things are technically possible. Fishing is exciting because it stimulates human nature. Strong stimulation removes stress and awakens people.

In Roman times people watched bullfights because the sight of blood excited them. Human beings have always sought strong stimulation. Women are not naturally attracted to weak men who only sit reading books. Father says women are drawn toward adventurous and active men who hunt, fish, and live dynamically. Literature belongs to the world of land and practical experience, but poetry belongs to imagination and possibility, like building a house in the middle of the ocean. Humanity needs both. That is why Father encourages women in the Unification movement to learn fishing and life on the ocean. Future generations should become strong, courageous people.

The ocean will become one of humanity’s great food sources. Deer farms and similar enterprises will also become valuable. Wild animals live healthier lives because they move freely and exercise constantly. Animals learn through repeated signals. When a bell rings several times they learn food is coming. Human beings should respond to God’s signals even more sensitively than animals respond to feeding calls. Father says these plans are not amusement or fantasy. This is what Father is seriously planning right now.

Completely integrated systems of ordering, assembly, and delivery are being developed. Food could be delivered directly to homes in a very short time. This kind of convenient system will spread throughout entire nations. For us this is good news. Food delivery, banking, and many systems will eventually become unified internationally. Can you do whatever Father asks you to do? Do not hesitate. Just do it — run and keep running. If someone says, “Father, I will do only one thing at a time,” Father says that person is not fit for the Unification Church. We need people ready to go anywhere — north, south, east, or west — wherever the providence requires. Do not think you will stay in one place forever. Move, travel, gain experience, and broaden your understanding. By moving in circles we discover the true center. With confidence, what Father asks you to do should be done day and night without hesitation. To become a marathon champion requires tremendous training. How much more training is necessary to become sons and daughters of God?

Have you ever truly thought about overcoming every difficulty in order to become God’s children?

Think seriously. Since creation, through billions of years of history, not even one moment has brought complete joy to God. God has remained sorrowful. For the first time in history, a small number of people are beginning to understand the sorrow of God. Yet billions of religious believers still think God is always happy and all-powerful in every situation. We say no. God is sorrowful.

Why did God create human beings? For true love. Love requires a relationship. It cannot exist alone in an isolated absolute position. Love requires reciprocal give and take.

Human beings possess emotions because they come from God Himself. God needs relationships just as human beings do. Without love there is no fulfillment. For this reason we must establish a clear understanding of God as a personal God with heart and character like our own. Then we can understand His joy, anger, sadness, and suffering. This correct understanding of God does not exist in most traditional religions, including Christianity. Existing theology often presents an incomplete understanding of God. When we say God is our Parent centered on true love, then for the first time we can truly understand the relationship between God and humanity. The existing concept of God in theology is far from what Father teaches. Father teaches complete unity with the Absolute through total give and take. When God loves me and I love God completely, then I share in His absoluteness.

The problem with much existing theology is individualism. Many Christians believe only they themselves will be saved while everyone else goes to hell. They do not understand that God’s heart embraces all humanity. God loves believers and nonbelievers alike, those in heaven and those in hell. Existing theology often fails to understand this universal love. We understand that God works through the Unification movement while embracing everyone. At the Fall, humanity became separated from true love. God could not unite Himself with false love or false action. God does not participate in what is false, but He can work wherever principle exists. Once God established the Principle, it functions like a constitution. A president does not need to rewrite the constitution every day. In the same way, God established principles that govern creation.

The world of indirect dominion operates according to principle.

How serious should we become when we realize that through countless ages God has never experienced fulfilled love even for one moment? When we hear this, can we still casually say the world is enjoyable? We must develop deep compassion and sympathy for God. Imagine the pain of existing without a true object partner of love. Once we truly feel compassion for God, we cannot simply go out carelessly and enjoy ourselves. When Father becomes deeply serious, sometimes he cannot even pray. Father already knows God’s suffering and knows what must be done.

Father has always felt that God helped Father more than Father even realized. Yet many Christians only pray, “Give me this, give me that,” without understanding God’s actual situation. Father understands the providence unfolding in Russia, America, North Korea, and the world. Father works constantly to keep pace with God’s providence. Throughout history there was rarely a truly happy conclusion, but Father discovered the great law of indemnity. Through indemnity Father moved step by step closer to God’s dispensation. Again and again Father shed the old and moved into the new. Now Father sees great hope before both God and humankind. This is a unique situation in history.

If we truly understand indemnity, we will come to love it.
